TEFAQ: format of the listening test (60 questions?)

Figures taken from a manual dated January 2018: it may have been updated since.

Short answer : According to the e-TEFAQ candidate manual (CCI Paris Île-de-France, January 2018), the listening test has 4 sections and 60 multiple-choice questions and lasts 40 minutes. The audio starts automatically and cannot be paused.

Beta. The voices are synthetic voices supplied by your device and vary from one device to another. The content was written with the help of artificial intelligence; a review by a native Québécois speaker is under way. Found a mistake? Write to [email protected] with the item id (F-tefaq-format).

The four sections

SectionQuestionsWhat you are asked to do
18Match illustrations with spoken messages
226Short messages: understand the gist and the context
316Long messages: details, intentions, opinions
410Recognise and tell apart sounds

There are 2, 4 or 5 options depending on the question, with one correct answer. The e-TEFAQ has four modular tests: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

The audio documents

The manual lists dialogues, narratives, descriptions, phone messages, public announcements, radio extracts and interviews. The recording starts automatically, cannot be paused, and you cannot go back. Some documents play once and others twice; each instruction says which.

What our exercises cover

Our items work on sections 2 and 3: announcements, messages, dialogues, interviews and radio reports. We do not yet cover picture matching or sound discrimination (sections 1 and 4).

We cannot say whether the current number of questions is still 60: check with CCI Paris Île-de-France or your exam centre.
