Motorcycle learner’s licence in Québec: steps 6R, 6A, 6B, 6C
From the knowledge test to the probationary licence: the order of the steps according to the SAAQ.
Short answer: Knowledge test (6R), a driving course of at least 30 days, the closed-track test (Class 6A learner’s licence), at least 11 months with that licence, then the road test.
The steps
- Knowledge test: Class 6R learner’s licence (valid 18 months).
- Driving course at an SAAQ-recognized school.
- Closed-track test: Class 6A learner’s licence. You must have held the 6R for at least one month and completed the course.
- Hold the Class 6A learner’s licence for at least 11 months.
- Road test, then the probationary licence.
Learner conditions (6A)
- Respect the midnight to 5 a.m. curfew.
- Never carry a passenger.
- Respect the zero-alcohol rule.
- Do not operate high-risk motorcycles.
To confirm
The road-test pass mark and retake delay are not repeated here: check the official SAAQ page before planning.
To remember for the test
- 6R → course → 6A (closed track) → 11 months → road test.
- Learner: curfew midnight–5 a.m., no passenger, zero alcohol.
