SAAQ motorcycle knowledge test: what to expect

The motorcycle knowledge test leads to the Class 6R learner’s licence.

Short answer: The test takes about one hour. The pass mark is 85% for the section on operating a motorcycle and 75% for the Highway Safety Code and road signs section. The number of questions is not published.

What is tested

If you already hold a Class 5 or probationary licence, the test covers motorcycle driving only. Otherwise it also covers the Highway Safety Code, road signs, pavement markings and traffic signals.

Retakes and documents

After a fail you must wait at least 28 days before retaking the test. Without a Québec photo licence you must present two official documents, one with a photo; under 18 you need the parental consent form. A declaration of illness or functional impairment and a vision test are also part of the process.

Fee

The SAAQ page lists a fee of $13.50 for the knowledge test. Fees change: confirm them on the SAAQ website.
