Can you take the SAAQ knowledge test online?
What you can do online, what happens at the service point, and what to bring on exam day (Class 5).
Short answer: no. According to the SAAQ’s “Auto (classe 5)” page (modified 2026-09-09), the knowledge (theory) test is taken in person, at the service point you chose when you booked. Online, you can book the appointment (SAAQclic portal) and practise, but not take the test itself.
Online or at the service point?
| Step | Where it happens |
|---|---|
| Book the SAAQ knowledge test | Online, in the SAAQclic portal |
| Practise | Online: the SAAQ’s “Test de connaissances” road-safety quiz, or a practice test such as Permis Prêt’s |
| Take the SAAQ knowledge test | In person, at the service point chosen when booking |
| Sign-language interpreter | By videoconference, offered at every centre that gives knowledge tests |
Don’t mix them up: your driving school’s theory exam (the module 5 evaluation) is part of the driving course and comes before the learner’s licence. The SAAQ’s knowledge test comes later, at least 10 months after you get the learner’s licence.
